Who is the Messiah?

 

On Feb 19^th 2009. Cardinal Kim, su-hwan passed away in Korea. The surprising news spread all around the country at once. In an instant, many people whose heard from news visited to honor him at Myungdong cathedral for 5 days. Around 400,000 in Seoul and 2 million people in all country came to express their condolences at his death.   

              He was actively engaged as a God’s priest all through his life. He loved the poor and persecuted people. He visited them without hesitation. He was not afraid of dictatorial powers. Furthermore he scolded the evil of the powerful with a stern voice. At the same time, as a priest he served God faithfully. He was not afraid of anything, but God. As a result, 2 million people testified how they loved him and how they missed him.

              The bellow is one real story about him.

One day the late cardinal Kim, su-hwan visited an elementary school. During his talk, one little girl asked him, “Grandfather Cardinal, have you seen God?”  He stood for a few seconds without words and slowly answered her, “honestly not”.

I wonder what facial expression she made surprise or admiration, or did she feel at ease….

When I heard his answer a lecture, I was surprised. He was well known for praying as the cardinal of the Korean catholic church. I couldn’t believe my ears. And he said again, “lovely little lady, I have not seen God but I continuously look forward Him in my own life . I always tell Him, I want to see You sometime. That’s the reason why I live as a weak priest. And I continue to pray to God. ”

              When I heard these answers, I admired his honesty. Honestly Who knows what God looks like? Who has met Him directly? Cardinal Kim didn’t make excuses with theology or ideal theory. As he said, “I have never seen Him”, he received a lot of support from children and made friends at that time. Surely with me. Even though he has moved to God’s shelter, he is respected by Korea people until now.

              Today’s gospel tells about the Messiah. Someone said that the messiah is the son of David. But Jesus said that you can tell what someone is from what that person does, like the late cardinal Kim’s life.
