Are you happy?

Good afternoon everyone.

I am Savio Kim from Korea. I am a member of the Society of Jesus.

I am studying theology in Sophia University now.

Ms Satou asked me to share my vocation story today. 

 

Before joining the Society, I worked for a bank in Korea for 6 years. It is a good job.

Working in a bank is not easy and that sometimes made me angry. 

But that bank rewarded me with a good salary, comfortable life and I felt accomplished. 

At that time, if I works until my retirement, I would not have any money problems in my life. 

 

One day, my boss said that I looked like a lifeless doll. 

When I heard this, I didn’t agree with him. 

But after some time, I accepted it. 

Upon reflection, I realized I was not interested in my job for the past 6 years. 

I really was like a doll without any feelings. I thought my world was so boring.

 

The bible shows us how Jesus calls his disciples where they are. 

Among them, Matthew a tax collector who was sitting in front of the customs house all day long. He was not interested in his life and his work. He looked a lifeless doll too. I think his life was boring like mine. 

 

At that time, Jesus saw him and asked him that ‘Are you happy?’

And then, Matthew immediately got up from his table and followed Jesus. 

 

My response to Jesus’ call was like Matthew who followed Jesus. 

So I am here and I stand in front of you. 

After I entered the Society, I always thank God for his grace and mercy.

I often feel His love among the people I meet.

I smiled more than before. 

I’m sure that I am so happy and glad everyday with the Lord even very happy like a clown.

 

Now Jesus is asking everyone that question-not only me but you, too, 

 

‘Are you happy?’

 

If you can answer ‘yes’, you are in the right direction. 

But you answered ‘no’, you have to make changes in your life that will make you happier.
